Ever thought about getting married? Whether your reaction is “of course” or “heck no,” they share a common thread: the act of getting married is first and foremost your choice. But that’s not the case for many around the world, particularly young girls.
Every year, 12 million girls under the age of 18 are married; some as young as 8. That’s more than live in any city in the United States. And that’s one girl married every 3 seconds who is robbed of her future, faces higher risks of violence and sickness, and is trapped in the cycle of poverty.
VOW gives couples, companies and the public the power to join the movement to end child marriage globally. VOW’s brand partners commit to donate a portion of profits from wedding products, experiences and gift registries to help end child marriage. All funds raised by VOW go to local organizations that stand up for girls’ rights and prevent child marriage in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Because of VOW, 15-year-old Maria (featured above) in the Dominican Republic participates in local workshops where she learns about sexual health, reproductive rights and education. Maria is now an advocate of these programs, sharing her knowledge and encouraging other community members to join her in learning their rights.
10% of sales from our VOW Beaded Bracelet will go to VOW to help end child marriage. We couldn’t be more excited about this partnership, or for that matter, this bracelet!
